During the regularly scheduled October meeting, the Joshua ISD Board of Trustees recognized Joshua High School Senior Jessica Jones for being chosen as a Commended Student in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Programs.

Jessica is one of approximately 34,000 Commended Students nationally selected for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who took the 2020 PSAT. Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success. These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation.

Jessica is an Honor Student and has been in the top 1% of her class all four years while participating in Astronomy, Culinary Arts, FCCLA, Debate, UIL, All-Region Band, Honor Band, Jazz Band, Spirit Winds, and Band Leadership. She is also working part-time and completing both a Teen Technology Guide Internship at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and a Rangers Explorers Internship at Dinosaur Valley State Park.

Jessica has won Top Scholar awards for Band, Biology, Honors, Honors ELA, and Spanish. She also was nominated and won a 2018 Bobby Bragan Scholarship Award, a recipient of a Joshua ISD Education Foundation Scholarship for the 2019 Texas Speech and Debate Camp, and nominated/selected for the 2020 NASA High School Aerospace STEM Scholars Program. She also won acceptance into the 2021 NASA Summer Moonshot Program. In the Fall of 2021, Jessica placed in the top 3% nationally with her PSAT score, becoming a Commended Scholar. 

Jessica is on track to graduate in 2022 with both a High School Diploma and an Associate Degree.
