Two JHS Congressional Debate Members Advance to State Tournament
The Joshua High School Congressional Debate Team participated in UIL ESC Region 11 Student Congress Tournament on November 9.
Congratulations to James Leifeste (2nd place), Ryann Armstrong (3rd place) and Daniel Delgado (6th place). Representatives Leifeste and Armstrong will advance to the UIL State Congressional Debate Tournament in January. The 5A Regional tournament included 24 total students from 8 schools. Students researched 20 different topics from the UIL Regional Congress Docket and wrote over 100 pages of speeches.
"I am so very proud of how hard these amazing kids have worked to prepare for this competition," said JHS Debate Teacher Angela Furtick. "Our students did a fantastic job of adjusting to this new and difficult transition to online debate."
State qualifiers will compete against approximately 58 representatives from qualifying 5A schools across Texas at the UIL State Tournament.
