During the regularly scheduled August meeting, the Joshua ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved entering into an Active Threat Response Protocol agreement with all Johnson County law enforcement agencies, school district officials, and emergency management personnel. This agreement is to coordinate a county-wide law enforcement response to emergency conditions caused by an active assailant posing a deadly threat to a school.
This partnership was created following the tragedy in Uvalde ISD and was led by Johnson County Sheriff Adam King. Sheriff King scheduled a meeting with all parties in early June to discuss additional safety procedures, training, and ways to collaborate. A committee was formed with representatives from across the county.
"I want to thank the Protocol Committee for their efforts in drafting the Active Threat Protocol," Sheriff King said. "I think our citizens will be comforted by the fact that law enforcement and school officials came together to address some very serious issues and concerns."
The agreement includes the following protocols:
- Immediate action on arrival
- Request for assistance
- Incident Command
- Radio Communications
- Media Inquiry Requests
- Johnson Co. Sheriff's Office as Coordinating Agency
