Proposition B would include renovation and expansion updates to the cafeteria and kitchen at Joshua High School.
- The current cafeteria at the high school was built in 1983 and has multiple levels in the dining area and kitchen, creating restrictions for the number of students that can eat during each of the school’s three lunch periods. The cafeteria can only hold up to 400 students during each lunch period and is near capacity, creating long lines and safety concerns.
-
The kitchen area has two levels which poses a potential safety risk for cafeteria workers as they transport food and other supplies up and down a ramp that connects the different levels.
- The updates to the kitchen would include electrical, mechanical and plumbing infrastructure and modern equipment.
-
Outdated electrical prevents buying newer equipment
-
Hood vent is past it is expected life expectancy and is rusting
-
Dish machine and booster heater is past its life expectancy and needs replacing
-
Dish room tables are broken and rusted
-
Lights and pipes rusting out
-
Space is not configured well to accommodate newer equipment, including narrow cook lines and drains positioning
-
Serving line drains in front where students are walking
-
Floors deteriorating causing trip hazards and surfaces that can’t be properly cleaned
-
Floor drain edges breaking down and causing a safety hazard
-
Loose wires run across the ceiling and coming out of holes in the wall
-
PVC holding up the ceiling in the walk-in freezer
-
Electric socket basically on the floor exposed to water, grease, and dirt
-
Walls deteriorating leaving porous surfaces that cannot be cleaned
