Update regarding HB 1481

Texas House Bill 1481 will take effect beginning in the 2025-26 school year, changing how students can use cell phones and other electronic communication devices during the school day.

• Main points of HB 1481
1) Students may not use electronic communication devices that can send or receive data, such as cell phones, laptops, tablets and smartwatches, during the instructional day
2) Schools must adopt and enforce policies that prohibit device use during instructional time

Exceptions include devices provided by the school district for instructional purposes, such as Chromebooks or devices fulfilling IEP or Section 504 plan accommodations.

Joshua ISD is currently reviewing district policies to align with HB 1481 and will communicate additional information before the start of the school year.

We appreciate your cooperation and support as we work to provide the best learning environment for our students.
