Two K-9s join Joshua ISD Police Department

Join us in welcoming K-9s Ryleigh and Elena to Joshua ISD! 

The K-9s join the Joshua ISD Police Department through its partnership with Sector K-9. These four-legged team members further our commitment to safe, supportive and welcoming campuses by helping our officers recognize concerns and provide support for student safety. 

K-9 Ryleigh, a four-year-old Labrador, is partnered with Chief James Novian and is a certified narcotics detection and comfort K-9. She will help reduce stress and provide relief during difficult situations. Ryleigh can also detect the odor of illegal drugs through routine and unannounced sweeps, helping deter unsafe behavior and maintain a safe learning environment. K-9 Elena, also a four-year-old Labrador, is partnered with Officer Zachary Hoffman and is certified in narcotics detection. 

Both K-9s are trained for detection and comfort, taking a preventative approach to safety. They are not bite or apprehension dogs. They are always under the supervision of a certified handler, and you may spot them on campuses or at district events.
