JHS Policy Debate easily top District competition

Congratulations to our Joshua High School Policy Debate Team on their outstanding performance at the UIL District Tournament on Monday, January 27!

JHS dominated the competition, securing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, along with both District bids to the UIL State Tournament in Austin this March.

  • 1st Place: Seniors Folu Olajide and Jacob Wright
  • 2nd Place: Juniors Thandeka Kabo and Jacob Pena
  • 3rd Place: Sophomores Presley Noojin and Tobias Hollmann

In addition, Tobias Hollmann was named the Top Speaker for District 8-5A.

The 1st and 2nd place teams have officially qualified for the UIL State Policy Debate Tournament, which will be held in Austin on March 20-21, while the 3rd place team will serve as the state alternate.

"We are so incredibly proud of these students for their dedication, hard work, and countless hours of research and preparation," Debate coach Angela Furtick said. "They represented JHS with excellence, and their achievements speak to their commitment and talent."
